DOT Drug Testing
When performing jobs that are identified as safety-sensitive by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), you will be subject to DOT drug testing rules and regulations. Before completing your DOT Drug test, it is imperative to make sure your drug test is completed by a DOT-certified technician like ours here at Mednovations. If your DOT drug test is performed by a non-certified technician, it will not be accepted.
Some safety-sensitive transportation jobs such as merchant mariners not only require DOT drug testing but also need special paperwork processing to have their DOT test accepted. The staff at Mednovations is knowledgeable with all the paperwork necessary for merchant mariner drug testing and will ensure all results and paperwork are processed in a timely fashion for efficient completion of your merchant mariner application.

The DOT drug tests are conducted using a urine sample which tests for marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and phencyclidine. In some cases, an employer may require that a DOT drug test be an observed collection. In this situation, a staff member of the same sex will professionally observe an employee placing a urine specimen into a urine cup. Employees with transportation-related jobs are prohibited from working while using illegal drugs or controlled substances unless prescribed by a medical professional.
DOT drug testing not only improves workplace safety but also increases workplace productivity. Since 1991, the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act has required DOT agencies to implement drug testing of transportation employees aiming for a drug-free transportation industry. As a DOT employee, you may not refuse any employer requested drug test during the course of your employment.
Employees are subject to DOT drug testing during the following circumstances:
